Rev. Stephanie Smallwood

Associate Minister/Minister of Christian Education

Reverend Stephanie Smallwood, a native Washingtonian. Educated in the District of Columbia’s public school system and have attended the Calvary Bible Institute pursuing a Biblical Studies Certificate. Reverend Stephanie Smallwood has been employed at National Public Radio for the last twenty-seven years. She is the third daughter of eight children, the proud wife of Richard Smallwood, a mother of LaTonya and Stefanie and the grandmother of Montreal, MeKayla and MeKhia Ellerbe.

Having been raised in a Christian home, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in 1983 and was baptized by her Pastor the late Rev. Dr. G. Thomas Wright., at the Temple of Truth Community Baptist Church. Reverend Smallwood immediately assisted the church beautification projects, hosting banquets lending a helping hand wherever necessary... Her hands were blessed hands because at a time when most weren’t computer savvy, she would also make fancy church bookmarks, generate envelopes for tithing, prepare the church bulletins and would make evangelism flyers. Reverend Smallwood became the founder and editor of the newsletter. Pastor Wright welcomed her gifts and appointed her church secretary. Somehow, her abilities exceeded administration and Reverend Smallwood become one of the church’s sharpest anointed trustees in its history.

In 1996, the Lord led Reverend Smallwood to the New United Baptist Church where the Pastor was Rev. Darin G., Freeman, Sr. As a dedicated member of this branch of Zion; she has faithfully served on the Trustee Board, Missionary Ministry, Garris Choraleers and The Gospel Choir. She service as the Director of the Youth Choir and Youth Ministry and was a member of the Christian Education Ministry. She is sold out for the Lord, Jesus the Christ. So sold out that one day she cried out, “What More Can I Do? The Lord spoke and Reverend Smallwood answered.

On October 21, 2001 Reverend Smallwood announced that “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to bring good tidings to the poor, proclaim release of the captives and recover sight to the blind, to set a liberty those who are oppressed and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord!” On January 20, 2002, Reverend Smallwood preached her initial sermon and was license to preach the Gospel at the New United Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Darin G. Freeman. She served in various ministries including on the Ministerial Staff until joining Craig Memorial in 2004.

Committed to serving as an Associate Minister at Craig Memorial Community Church, Reverend Smallwood serves as a Sunday School Teacher and she serve at the Spiritual Advisor for the Women’s Christian Fellowship.

Reverend Smallwood was ordained by Pastor Sherwood A. Walker on January 26, 2013. Reverend Smallwood assist Pastor Walker as directed. She is fully persuaded to let nothing in all creation hinder her from being obedient to her calling. Truly, her heart is fixed, her mind is made up and she is going every step of the way. One of her favorite scripture is Psalm 34:1”I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth”.
